Evaluation and Reflection on Portfolio Video


Video 1 – Preparing a Portfolio

The most important type of drawings is primary drawings, being of real life objects and people.

A wide range of work should be put into the portfolio, especially the best pieces of work, as you cannot put every piece into the portfolio. It is important to have an organized portfolio so it is easy and clear for the view to read and link pieces together. A good portfolio is said to demonstrate a variety of interests, abilities and skills. The quality also, by selecting only the most decent pieces of produced work. This is closely followed by the sequence in the way the work is arranged, which should be put into clear groups. You should not put examples of other people’s produced work into the portfolio.

The decent pieces of selected work that shows the highest creative expressionism should be chosen but also to link well. This represents your ability in art and what you can produce with a variety of media. Despite having to choose the best pieces, it may also go to show what you aren’t as achievable with.

Preparation is essential for the portfolio as you are then fully prepared in advance for what you need to present. There may be something that appears that you have not come across before, putting you on the spot of having to make something up if asked.


Video 2 – Portfolio Example

The type of work in this portfolio included primary photos, found objects, their own work and a variety of still life, different types of paintings and graphic designs. The portfolio did show a variety of different media, also about the artist themselves and their ‘personality’.

Although this portfolio could be improved by including more design ideas. More 3D type pieces would have made it more interesting to see, as this would show the artist’s individual skill. There were a lot of photos, which portrayed their inspiration, especially the painting that was used with the bold colours and strong ideas.


 Video 3 – What should a Portfolio show?

The main points that the client is looking for is commitment and independence that shows their clear skills and abilities, also on expressionism of ideas. The sketchbook is important for the portfolio because it shows the process from start to finish. It should also include which pieces of work leads into a specific idea, forming everything together. The other of the portfolio is important so it is clear for the view to understand by reading through easily and being able to link everything together.


Video 4 – Portfolio Day

If put together correctly a portfolio can get you into the course/job that you would like, and also helps you to get into colleges/universities. It presents what you are fully capable of successfully producing. It also shows your mind ability in art.


Video 5 – Portfolio

A portfolio is full of your own work; it shows a vision of yourself and in a way portrays your own personality and expression. It is a record of what you have collected together over time, which can also be produced online – a blog being the most common way to create it.
