Portfolio

A portfolio is a personal visual diary that shows the development of your work and ideas. It is a record of what you have done so far which also expresses your personality.

The concept of a portfolio has its origins in art and architecture. Artists and architectures use portfolios to assemble samples and evaluations of their work.

To create a strong portfolio, it should demonstrate a variety of interests, abilities and skills. The quality of the work in the portfolio counts the most, so by only selecting the best examples of create expressionism will provide an accurate view of experiences and skills. The sequence of the work is a significant point alongside a clear organization in which projects are thoroughly grouped and arranged thematically.

When it is a poor portfolio, it does not consist of a variety of different media, only basic materials and ideas are made. The producer of the portfolio may have selected pieces of work that aren’t so successful to evaluate on. As for the portfolio sequence being a major point when creating it, if that isn’t clear enough it may make the presentation difficult to understand.

A portfolio documents your creative journey. It is the most important means used to evaluate the potential. It shows how you have developed and how you may progress. It also portrays the development of your abilities and ideas over a period of time.

Portfolios can also be produced online; the most common way is on a blog where you can easily update it every now and again on the latest pieces of work produced. This can be presented however you like, whether it being a very detailed written blog or mostly with photographs of your artwork that you can annotate on.

The portfolio should show evidence of your creative and technical skills, which also includes evidence of your personality, your process for developing ideas and your ability to evaluate. A range of different ideas is also a good and simple objective to include as this shows that you have explored other types of media and not only focused on a specific section.
